Burning since 1901, the Centennial Bulb has earned the Guinness Book of World Records blessing as the world’s longest burning lightbulb. Since leaving the Shelby Electric Company 115 years ago, this extraordinary bulb has been covered by everyone from CBS, ABC and PBS, to The BBC. Usually considered a prime example of quality construction, the bulb is now used to argue against corporate greed and planned obsolescence. Check out our newest KarmaLaunch Hero – Chris Leamy! A regular New Yorker, a hard worker and a musician for the love of it, had his life changed one day in April on the subway. A lady sat on the subway asking for change, like she had done day after day. She saw Chris’s guitar slung over his shoulder as he traveled and nodded her head towards him saying, “This would be much easier with that”. We’ve all seen flooding caused by natural events such as tropical storms and hurricanes, even in areas with built-in flood protection. However, more recently we are seeing flash-flooding in areas not historically hit by storms, so areas are unprepared to handle a sudden deluge of water. This is caused by low pressure systems moving throughout the south and dumping torrential rainfall throughout many southern cities, most notably in Louisiana. KarmaLaunch is excited to take part in a great cause this upcoming Saturday, July 23. We are donating t-shirts to the Pacifica Boys and Girls Club for a landscaping cleanup project that parents of the community have organized. We are not only donating t-shirts but we are also getting our hands dirty by helping with weeding and planting of drought resistant plants and grass.
